Search Stephens County Civil Dockets

Most civil cases in Stephens County sit in one of two places, so that split drives any search. The district clerk in Breckenridge holds the district court files, while the justice court keeps its own smaller docket. Start there. A posted civil docket gives a quick view of court dates, but fuller case activity, filings, and judgments usually comes from the clerk or the statewide civil research portal where coverage allows. Searching the Stephens County civil docket works best with a cause number and the court name, because a party name alone tells you nothing about the claim, any ruling, or where the case stands now.

Stephens County Civil Docket Searches

The county offers a free Stephens County docket archive. Civil PDFs there are grouped by year and date. You cannot search it by party name. The August 2025 civil docket is a scanned two-page call list. That means browser search may miss words you can plainly see on the page.

For civil cases filed electronically where the court participates, re:SearchTX gives Cases, Filings, Text in Documents, and Hearings views. You must register to use it. Document fees may apply. Participation varies by court. eFileTexas transmits filings to courts, but it is not a public history of every case.

  1. Identify the court and gather the cause number, party name, and approximate date.
  2. Check the county archive for the civil list and read its heading.
  3. Search eligible material in re:SearchTX, checking cases, filings, and hearings separately.
  4. For a JP matter, use the official packet list and contact the JP for status.
  5. Ask the responsible clerk for the register, named filing, or signed judgment.

Three Stephens County Civil Docket Columns

The sample docket is strikingly bare. Its heading reads “CIVIL DOCKET FOR AUGUST 14, 2025 @ 8:30 AM,” with three main columns beneath it. No judge or courtroom appears on the list, so do not read either detail into the courthouse address.

CAUSE #The local identifier needed for a precise clerk request.
PARTIESThe case style, not proof of liability or judgment.
DESCRIPTIONA short matter label, not the petition or legal theory.
Docket date and timeThe call date and time, not the filing date.
Status and eventsDetails that may appear only in an electronic register or clerk file.
JudgmentThe signed outcome, which should be requested separately when needed.

Civil Dockets: What They Show

A complete Stephens County civil register can show filing dates, petitions, answers, service returns, motions, orders, hearings, and disposition. The posted call list promises none of that. It simply names the cases called that day, tagging each with a short label such as civil debt, civil, nondisclosure, or occupational-driver-license.

Labels mislead. “Civil debt” gives no amount, claim, court level, or result. “Nondisclosure” may mark an application, not a criminal disposition. An occupational-license entry is just a procedure category. It does not say whether relief was granted. Always read the underlying filing and the signed order.

Stephens County Civil Docket PDF Gaps

The county civil list is a scan. Because of that, browser find and ordinary indexing often cannot read its text. Eyeball the rows or run OCR, but OCR misreads cause numbers and names. Check any hit against the page image. Then quote the displayed cause number when you contact the clerk.

What if the PDF lists parties but no result? Try re:SearchTX if the case is eligible and the court participates. Then ask the District Clerk for the current register and signed order. For a JP case, ask that court instead. A missing electronic result can mean spotty coverage. It can also mean an older paper file, a protected record, or a case held elsewhere.

Note: An unreadable scan or empty text search is a format problem, not proof that the civil entry is absent.

What Cases Fill the Civil Docket

The 90th Judicial District Court handles the big civil and family matters within district jurisdiction. Stephens County has no County Court at Law on the official subject-matter map. Its county court is identified for probate and juvenile functions. So confirm current jurisdiction for a specific claim. Breckenridge Municipal Court is not a general civil court.

  • District civil and family matters within the 90th District Court's jurisdiction.
  • Justice-court small claims and debt claims.
  • Eviction and forcible-entry matters in the JP court.
  • Repair-and-remedy claims and other JP matters within its authority.
  • Post-judgment steps such as abstracts, writs, and releases.

According to the Stephens Justice Court page, most of its civil cases do not exceed $20,000. Treat the amount and claim type as routing clues only. They are not a substitute for current jurisdiction advice.

Stephens County Civil Docket Packets

Need a small claims form, an eviction packet, or a writ? The JP Civil Documents page from Stephens County covers all of that. Debt claims, repair and remedy, answers, dismissals, judgments, abstracts, and retrieval orders are there too. Each packet walks you through the process and the fields you must fill in.

One caution. A packet proves nothing about any Stephens County civil docket entry. It will not tell you whether a case was filed. It will not tell you how the judge ruled on it. For that, you need the actual court record. The packets are simply a starting point.

Hearings on the Civil Docket

A docket date is when the court calls a matter, not when the lawsuit began. The setting could involve a motion, a status conference, temporary relief, a pretrial issue, or trial. The 8:30 AM heading proves only what that one list says. It is not a standing schedule for all Stephens County civil cases.

Confirm any setting through the latest register and the clerk. A scheduling order may set deadlines no short posted list shows. A reset or continuance moves the court event without dismissing the case. The Stephens County Court Schedule page lays out a fuller workflow. Use it for verifying a current setting.

Stephens County Civil Docket Status Terms

Outcome labels on a Stephens County civil docket each carry their own meaning, so treat them as distinct. The brief public entry may leave them out. For the controlling wording, rely on the electronic register or the signed order itself.

Nonsuit
A withdrawal under applicable procedure; the order controls conditions.
DWOP
Dismissal for want of prosecution, only when the record uses that term.
Default judgment
A judgment following a response or appearance failure under the rules.
Final judgment
An order resolving claims; a certified copy may be needed for formal use.
Transfer or severance
A case-management action changing where or how claims proceed.

An appeal opens a separate appellate docket at the Eleventh Court of Appeals. The local trial docket still holds trial-court events and the record sent on appeal.

Stephens County Civil Docket Judgments

The District Clerk at 200 West Walker, Breckenridge, TX 76424 keeps 90th District Court civil files. The office phone is 254-559-3151 and fax is 254-559-8127. The JP is in Suite 200 at the same courthouse, phone 254-559-5322 and fax 254-559-1127. Confirm counter hours, mail or email availability, payment method, and turnaround before sending a request.

Who Can See Civil Dockets

Civil court records in Texas are open to the public by default. That openness has limits, though, and some fields stay hidden. Rule 76a controls when a civil court record gets sealed. Rule 21c requires redaction of sensitive data. It covers things like identifiers, financial account numbers, birth dates, addresses, and details about minors, all subject to its terms. Juvenile cases follow separate restrictions of their own. Certain probate, guardianship, protective-order, and mental-health filings do too.

Public access boundaries:

Texas Rules of Civil Procedure 21c and 76a address redaction and civil sealing.

Texas Family Code Chapter 58 restricts juvenile records.

Texas OCA access policy distinguishes clerk case records from Rule 12 judicial records.

The Texas Public Information Act covers qualifying governmental information. It does not override rules that apply to court case records. If access to a Stephens County civil docket is limited, ask the clerk which rule applies and what procedure exists. Never run alternate queries to work around a restriction.
